| What We Do …for Agencies For many years, one government initiative after the other has emphasised the importance of improving multi-agency cooperation. Social Services and CAMHS need to find effective ways of working together more closely, to bring about real change in ‘complex cases’ usually involving some of the most disadvantaged young people and their families. The government aims to reduce the incidence of family breakdown and keep more children out of care. Schools struggle with behavioural difficulties, and need to promote the involvement of parents in meeting the emotional needs of children, in order to achieve ‘Health Schools’ status. Youth Offending Teams need to cooperate with CAMHS and with Children and Families teams, in order to provide effective parenting support. Finally, fostering services need to work closely with social workers and child mental health professionals to help bring about improvement for Looked After Children and to support their foster carers. Yet what models of working together are effective, rather than leading to greater multi-agency bureaucratisation? PartnershipProjects is a multi-agency consultancy and training organisation, which develops effective local service models at the interface of these agencies. Using psychological approaches which are specifically designed to meet the needs of high risk service users and the statutory agencies working with them, we help you to develop therapeutic projects, parenting programmes and family support models which are effective, efficient and brief. Social Services and other agencies can also make direct referrals for psychological intervention in close cooperation between all professionals. This service is currently offered in the Southeast of England, and we aim to make it available in other regions, as well. Effective psychological interventions require a high level of specific knowledge and skill. PartnershipProjects specialises in providing training either in house, or to individual professionals - for acquiring those skills which are necessary to work effectively on the multi-agency level. …for Families Many parents have ‘tried everything’ to change their child’s behaviour, and are shocked to witness more and more anger and aggression, lying, stealing and other difficulties. A sense of helplessness in the face of increasingly difficult, near daily incidents can wear parents down and make them feel alone with these problems. Whilst being at the receiving end of a young person’s behaviour, they are often very concerned for their child’s future. Families and professionals tend to see that young people showing aggression appear low in confidence, and anxious about the many challenges life puts to children, adolescents or young adults. Young people showing behavioural difficulties also often carry diagnoses such as ADD or Asperger’s Syndrome leaving parents to wonder whether there is anything they can do. You may feel you have reached a dead end in dealing with your child’s behavioural difficulties, or have become further disempowered by his or her refusal to cooperate, or by the absence of change in therapy. Non Violent Resistance, or NVR, has been developed over the past 12 years specifically to support families in this situation. PartnershipProjects has recently started introducing this approach in the UK. You can contact us directly for coaching in NVR. Due to their extensive experience in working with difficulties arising from violence and abuse, and their training in specific therapeutic approaches for trauma, PartnershipProjects associates are also available to provide Brief Therapy for trauma and other anxiety-related problems to individuals and families. These services are presently provided in the Southeast of England, and we aim to make them available in other regions, as well. |
