Special Interest Groups (SPIG)

A free monthly virtual session for NVR Professionals

PartnershipProjects are delighted to announce that we are hosting Special Interest Groups (SPIG) for Non-Violent Resistance (NVR) professionals to attend each month.

These groups are designed for any NVR professional who is interested in connecting with others in their field to discuss, develop and embed NVR within their particular setting. We seek to establish good practice; recognise and support each other in negotiating the challenges of working with NVR in diverse settings; keep up to date with developments in rapidly changing contexts and enjoy sharing and inspiring others with stories of our work in NVR.

We have 3 special interest groups running currently. Each is hosted by one of PartnershipProjects highly qualified NVR trainers.

The specialist areas are:

  1. For Commissioners, Service Leads, Team Leads who are at any point along their NVR journey (1st Wednesday of the month 9 – 10.30am)
  2. For professionals working in or with Schools, either NVR Practitioners or Teachers (& other education professionals) looking to share their experience of working within an NVR /New Authority framework (1st Thursday of the month 4 – 5.30pm)
  3. For NVR-trained practitioners working in adolescent mental health services or in other services with young people experiencing mental health difficulties eg eating disorders; suicidal ideation/ self-harm; avoidance; anxiety, and OCD. (3rd Tuesday of the month 9 – 10.30am, starting 21st May 2024)

These are 1.5-hour sessions (drop-ins welcome!!) and are hosted by PartnershipProjects highly qualified NVR trainers. The sessions are free of charge, simply register your interest below. You can join as many sessions as you would like.

We look forward to seeing you!

More Information

SPIG for Commissioners / Service Leads

About the session:

In 2022/23 PartnershipProjects trained nearly 1000 practitioners to NVR Foundation Level 1. During consultation and training similar questions frequently arise:

  • How do we embed NVR within existing delivery frameworks.
  • How does NVR sit alongside statutory frameworks
  • How long is an average NVR Intervention and what happens if I can only work with a family for 6 weeks
  • How do we create an NVR pathway within our service and what do referrals look like
  • How do we ensure that practitioners have access to supervision and support as they start practising NVR
  • Are group or individual interventions more effective
  • How do we make sure that the delivery of NVR is sustainable within our service

In response to these queries we have decided to set up a Special Interest Group for Commissioners / Service Leads who have already trained practitioners in NVR or who are considering doing so. The plan is to share best practice, to overcome setbacks and to ensure that services delivering NVR thrive and grow.

The Special Interest Group will run on the first Wednesday of every month from 9-10.30am on zoom. It will be an opportunity to share and learn and to build a strong community of those who are leading on the development of NVR across the UK and beyond. Each month we will focus on a particular theme that has been suggested by members of the group.

SPIG for Schools

About the session:

Here at PartnershipProjects, we have received lots of enquiries about taking NVR into schools. We have also worked with several schools to train staff and embed NVR principles in the way that they respond to children who behave in ways that challenge the adults.

In Europe, the New Authority framework is widely used to guide school practitioners as to how they might create an environment that is boundaries and safe for children who behave in harmful and destructive ways. In the UK the principles of NVR are still largely counter-cultural in terms of the way behaviour is understood and managed… Yet we know that existing practices are not meeting the needs of our most vulnerable children and their families, and we know that NVR can provide a solution.

We have decided to set up a monthly Special Interest Group (SPIG) for NVR Practitioners who are working in schools and for school staff who are interested in learning more about the NVR approach and how it might be applied in educational settings. The aim of the group is to provide a forum in which best practices can be shared, setbacks can be explored and overcome and new ideas can be developed. We will meet on Zoom on the first Thursday of each month from 4 – 5.30pm.
